Born in Ottawa, Canada, in 1995. Joel, who has Down syndrome, has used pens, markers, and acrylic paints from a young age to express himself artistically through his unique perspective. While he sometimes struggles with verbal expression, art serves as a window into his inner world, allowing him to portray his thoughts, emotions, and insights as they are. The main themes of his work are love, music, and precious moments spent with family and friends. For Joel, art is life itself, embodying growth and the aging process. During the mentally challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, he nicknamed himself "J Positive" and began to view creation as a means of healing and self-expression.
