Yukio Watanabe

Watanabe currently lives in a group home. Many of his works were painted while he was staying at Asaka Asunaro-so, a support facility for people with disabilities. One of his representative works depicts what appear to be four-legged creatures. It is also the logo for Asaka Aiikuen's creative project, "unico," and Watanabe himself says it is a "cat." Sometimes the legs and tails are drawn in a single, graceful stroke. And the sight of many of them lined up facing the viewer draws our eye with a mysterious rhythm and humor.
