HERALBONY
Summer 2025

Artist: SATO

Christmas tree shop

Ever since encountering watercolor painting at a 10-year-old's summer camp, it has been his daily routine to paint one picture a day at home. There is no specific model; he fills large sheets of drawing paper with a fresh touch reminiscent of jelly beans or raindrops, selecting a combination of several colors from his palette according to the image in his heart that day. He favors transparent watercolors made in the U.S. to ensure the hues remain clear. When someone tells him, "It's beautiful," upon seeing a finished painting, he parrots back, "It's beautiful," with a look of delight.

In his spare time, he enjoys Saori weaving, piano, and dance at art classes in Boston.

Artist: Momoko Nakagawa

Momoko

Born in 1996, resides in Shiga Prefecture. Joined Yamanami Kobo in 2015.

Initially, she repeatedly wrote her own name, "Momoko." Her expression seemed to enjoy the sensation of drawing, and she began to draw and layer circles instead of her name. Her vibrant works, created by layering countless circles with paint, ballpoint pens, and colored pencils while cheerfully humming songs, seem to reflect her bright demeanor.

Artist: Takafumi Yamane

Title unknown

Born in 1996, resides in Shiga Prefecture. Joined Yamanami Kobo in 2015.

Originally reluctant to engage in creative activities, he began stamp pressing as a method he could approach without pressure, like a task. Using various materials such as cardboard rolled into a stick, paper cups, and rubber stamps, he chooses his favorite colors and carefully presses each stamp one by one. Through this process, he gradually freed himself from his aversion to creative work, and each time a piece was completed, he gained a sense of accomplishment, joy, and a deeper confidence in his creative abilities.

Today, this activity has become a means of self-expression for him, despite his introverted nature.

Artist: Iga, Kaoru

I began creating art seriously after exhibiting at Art Brut Tachikawa in 2015. I use various art materials such as paints, pastels, and colored pencils, and also create collages and three-dimensional works using my own art as material. I also love music and have been learning the cello for over 20 years. Although I have autism and struggle with conversation, I am interested in many things and do not hesitate to join social circles.

In 2023, I modeled for HERALBONY's key visual.

Artist: Sugimoto Kaoru

Untitled

Born in 1979, resides in Shiga Prefecture. Has been a member of Yamanami Kobo since 1998.

When she first started attending Yamanami, her initial task was making paper from milk cartons. In this process, her role was to roll the extracted paper fibers into small balls with her palms.

Although that particular task no longer exists, and her activities have changed over 20 years, for her, the act of rolling fibers with both hands still represents "work." Now, with a broader range of activities, she uses paper cups, chooses her favorite colors, and carefully stamps each one. The circles on the paper cups, layered in various colors, create a vibrant finish. For her, the acts of rolling clay into balls and pressing stamps are considered work, and likely lead to a sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and motivation.

HERALBONY is an art lifestyle brand from Iwate Prefecture that aims to create a new culture with artists belonging to welfare facilities in Japan and overseas.
The unfamiliar word "HERALBONY" is a mysterious word that the founder's older brother, who is four years older than the twins, Keita and Misa Matsuda, and has severe intellectual disabilities accompanied by autism, wrote in his notebook when he was seven years old. It may be a word that holds no meaning to the world. However, it was written precisely because there was something about it that resonated. It embodies the desire to take ideas that might seem meaningless at first glance and turn them into something valuable for the world.

RESPECT FOR
ARTISTS

We believe in respecting disabled artists as creators of art, and we collaborate with them on an equal footing as partners, rather than offering "support."
A portion of the sales from HERALBONY products is paid to the artists as remuneration. Your purchase, through HERALBONY, reaches artists and welfare facilities.

We are committed to crafting high-quality products that bring out the best in each piece by carefully selecting and examining materials and creative approaches. Our top-quality art products will add a touch of color to your everyday life.
