◼︎About the exhibition "Distant Proximity - The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo"
This exhibition features works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has compiled over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Ohji, and NANA. Artists who received photographs taken by Matsuoka layered drawings, "responding" by inscribing their works, creating a dialogue between photography and painting like a back-and-forth letter exchange.
What emerges when artists expressing themselves in different genres and methods interact with each other's works is trust and dialogue that transcends words. As the world captured through Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intersect, new works are born, and fundamental questions of "seeing," "connecting," and "existing" emerge.
