◼︎About the Exhibition "Distant Closeness: The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo"
This exhibition features works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has taken over many years, along with new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the same facility. The participating artists are Rikuuto Yoshida, Tomoki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. By receiving Matsuoka's photographs and adding drawings, the artists "responded" by carving their works, creating a dialogue like a back-and-forth letter between photography and painting.

When these artists, expressing themselves in different genres and methods, interact with each other's works, a trust and dialogue beyond words are born. The world captured through Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intertwine to create new works, bringing forth fundamental questions of "seeing," "connecting," and "existing."

Ittetsu Matsuoka

Born in 1978. Photographer. Graduated from the Department of Photography, Nihon University College of Art. While working as a photographer, he established and managed Terme Gallery in 2008. He captures his everyday surroundings in photographs while continuing to observe and photograph the world with an impartial gaze. His major solo exhibitions include "Marii" at BOOKMARC (Tokyo, 2018), "Yasashii Dake" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2020), "what i know" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2023), and "TOKYO GAMES" at Shibuya Scramble SKY GALLERY (Tokyo, 2023). His latest solo exhibition is "Motto Fukakute Sugokute, Abunakute, Tamaranaku Utsukushii Yatsu. Futsu Janai Mono." at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film (Tokyo, 2025).
