◼︎About the exhibition "Distant Closeness" -The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo-
This exhibition is composed of works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has collected over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to "Yamanami Kobo," a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the same facility. The participating artists are Rikuya Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA, a total of four individuals. When the artists received the photographs taken by Matsuoka, they added their drawings, engraving their works as "responses," creating a dialogue like an exchange of letters between photography and painting.
What emerges when these artists, who express themselves in different genres and methods, interact with each other's works is trust and dialogue that transcend words. As the world reflected in Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intersect, new works are born, and fundamental questions of "seeing," "connecting," and "existing" emerge.
