◼︎About the Exhibition "Distant Closeness" -The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo-
This exhibition consists of works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has taken over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. Artists who received photographs taken by Matsuoka added drawings, creating works as a "response." This process created a dialogue between photography and painting, like a back-and-forth correspondence.
When these artists, who express themselves in different genres and methods, interact with each other's works, it creates a trust and dialogue that transcends words. The world captured through Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the eyes of the artists intersect, giving birth to new works and raising fundamental questions about "seeing," "connecting," and "existing."
