◼︎About the exhibition "Distant Closeness" — The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo —
This exhibition features works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has collected over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. Artists who received photographs taken by Matsuoka layered drawings and "responded" by inscribing their works, creating a dialogue between photography and painting like an exchange of letters.
When these artists, expressing themselves in different genres and methods, interact with each other's works, it creates trust and dialogue that transcend words. The world captured through Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intersect, giving birth to new works and raising fundamental questions about "seeing," "connecting," and "existing."
