◼︎About the Exhibition "Distant Closeness: The World of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo"
This exhibition consists of works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has compiled over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the same facility. The four participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. Artists who received Matsuoka's photographs added their drawings, and by inscribing their works as "responses," a dialogue like an exchange of letters was born between photography and painting.
What emerges when these artists, expressing themselves in different genres and methods, interact with each other's works is trust and dialogue that transcends words. As the world captured by Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intersect, new works are born, and fundamental questions of "seeing," "connecting," and "existing" arise.
