◼︎About the exhibition "Distant Closeness: The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo"
This exhibition consists of works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has been accumulating for many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with the artists affiliated with the facility. The participating artists are Rikuo Yoshida, Tomoki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. The artists, who received photographs taken by Matsuoka, layered their drawings on top, creating works as "responses," giving rise to a dialogue between photography and painting, much like an exchange of letters.

What arises when these artists, who express themselves through different genres and methods, interact with each other's works, is a trust and dialogue that transcends words. As the world captured by Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intersect, new works are born, and fundamental questions of "seeing," "connecting," and "existing" emerge.

Ittetsu Matsuoka

Born in 1978. Photographer. Graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography. While working as a photographer, he founded and managed Terme Gallery in 2008. He continues to capture daily life through his photographs, always maintaining an equal gaze on the world. His major solo exhibitions include "Marii" at BOOKMARC (Tokyo, 2018), "Yasashii Dake (Just Gentle)" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2020), "what i know" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2023), and "TOKYO GAMES" at Shibuya Scramble Sky Gallery (Tokyo, 2023). His latest solo exhibition is "Motto Fukakute Surudokute, Abunakute, Tamaranaku Utsukushii Yatsu. Futsu Janai Mono. (Something Deeper, Sharper, More Dangerous, Irresistibly Beautiful. Something Not Ordinary.)" at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film (Tokyo, 2025).
