◼︎About the Exhibition "Distant Closeness: The Universe of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo"
This exhibition comprises works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has collected over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to Yamanami Kobo, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the same facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Ohji, and NANA. Artists who received Matsuoka's photographs added drawings, creating "responses" and returning their works, thereby fostering a dialogue between photography and painting, much like a correspondence.
When artists who express themselves in different genres and methods interact with each other's works, it creates trust and dialogue that transcend words. The world captured through Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the eyes of the artists intertwine, giving birth to new works and raising fundamental questions about "seeing," "connecting," and "existing."
