HERALBONY's first "scarf ring" is born

Atelier ST, CAT specializes in wedding rings and creates "jewelry that connects people."

Discover the unique HERALBONY and a new story begins between art and craft.

We asked the two people from atelier ST, CAT about the thoughts they put into the scarf ring.

The act of "tying" is discussed from each perspective.

Interview with Seiko Hayashi, Owner of atelier ST, CAT

"Creating something that resonates with the heart" - that idea overlapped with HERALBONY.

Owner Seiko Hayashi launched ST, CAT while she was working as an editor. She started making jewelry as a hobby and established the brand in 2017. In 2023, she transformed into a "brand specializing in wedding rings" that takes advantage of the strengths of handcrafted work.

"Rather than being consumed as a trend,
We wanted to propose a positive way of shopping, where people choose because they want to."

As if to loosen up a little the values that "must be a certain way" surrounding marriage and other life events, ST, CAT embodies human warmth in its natural, imperfect lines and shapes.

"Just like the lines drawn by the human hand, the slightly irregular shape makes it comfortable for both the fingers and the heart.
I value uncalculated, accidental beauty.”

I resonated with his belief in art as something "good."

When Hayashi first encountered HERALBONY, he was attracted to the philosophy at the heart of the brand.

"Art is being delivered not in the context of welfare, but as something good in itself. I felt a strong connection with this way of thinking."

"The artists are proud of their work and communicate it with a straightforward gaze. I think that's really powerful and beautiful."

Tying a scarf, a little freedom

This art scarf ring was born from the idea of adding the act of "tying" to the scarf that symbolizes HERALBONY.

"A scarf brings a sense of elevating to an outfit. Adding a ring to it makes it easier to wear. It may be small, but it's a piece of jewelry packed with feelings."

"As a way to incorporate art into everyday life,
Small items like scarves and jewelry are the most familiar items. They add cultural depth and
I think it will help each person's identity shine through."

Manufacturing that creates a natural cycle

"Within a brand or company, you create something that you truly want. Then it goes out into the world with its proper value, and someone picks it up because they think it's wonderful. The ideal world would be one where things circulate naturally like this."

This ring quietly embodies the thoughts of both HERALBONY and ST, CAT.

"It's a very small thing, but it expresses the feelings of everyone at Heralbony, and our feelings,
There's a lot packed into it. I'm really happy that it's finally taking shape."

"I hope this scarf ring will quietly play a role in the theme of 'connecting art and everyday life.'"

Interview with designer and creative director Akiho Kano

A "tying" design that embodies the warmth of your hands

"Scarf rings are surprisingly delicate. We focused on making them as light and gentle as possible so as not to damage the fabric."

This was my first attempt at making a scarf ring.
Made from 925 silver, it has a hypoallergenic finish. Its 2-way design means it can also be used as a ring, making it easy to wear even for those unfamiliar with jewelry.

"The inside is not a tough finish like a ring, but a soft matte finish. It's not too slippery, so you can hold the scarf in place gently."

I wanted to recreate the artist's "hand-drawn feel" on metal.

"These days, many things are made by machine using CAD and other methods, but we have always worked by hand. Almost all of HERALBONY's art is "hand-drawn", which is why we wanted to recreate that warmth in our scarf rings."

Inspired by artist Midori Kudo's work "Untitled (Blue)," he carves patterns into the metal surface as if engraving "hand-drawn lines." He created a unique technique by modifying the tip of a tool to reproduce the unevenness and rhythm of hand-drawn lines.

"I discovered Kudo's work through Heralbony's book, 'Stand Out,' and was deeply moved by it. I had no hesitation in choosing this piece as a source of inspiration."

Cuddling and having fun

When asked about the philosophy that the brand holds dear, Kano thinks for a moment before answering gently.

"We have to be close to our customers and staff. First and foremost, we have to enjoy ourselves. If we're not having fun, we won't be able to create something that makes people happy."

The basis of design is "sensation." Something that fits in the hand, is comfortable to wear, and blends naturally into everyday life. From there, each individual's "preferences" are layered.

I felt a sense of strength and freedom from HERALBONY's art.

"When I first saw the works of HERALBONY's contract artists, I was simply thrilled. I was overwhelmed by the freedom and strength with which they all painted, completely absorbed in their work. When I visited the Lumbini Museum in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture with Hayashi, I felt that passion firsthand."

He says that the same passion was evident even as he worked with the HERALBONY team.

"Everyone on the team is looking forward with the determination to spread this art, and we all share the same passion. I was really moved by that sense of unity."

The act of "connecting" creates a team bond

"Five members were involved in this production. Until now, mass production had been handled by one person,
By creating it together, we felt like the team was coming together."

"Through this ring, you can connect with people you would not normally meet. The person who picks it up, the art, and the maker will all be united in one circle - I would be delighted if this collaboration could turn out to be like that."
