Thorsten Raab

Thorsten Raab

Die Shlumper
Born in 1974, Thorsten Raab lives and works in Hamburg, Germany and has been a member of the artist collective Die Schlumper since 2009.
Thorsten's first love was music, which later gave way to the art of painting. Influenced by artists such as Basquiat and Keith Haring, he also draws inspiration from the black music and art of the 1970s and 1980s. He owns a large collection of vinyl records and occasionally DJs together with friends.
Through his experimental approaches with material and color, Raab has developed unique variations of protagonist figures which can be witnessed across many of his works. Often spontaneous almost to a degree of being chaotic, the works include thick brushed strokes with bright colors and overlays that dominate their surfaces.
Die Schlumper is a studio collective for artists with various disabilities, founded in the 1980s in Hamburg by artist Rolf Laute (1940–2013).
