Toshio Okamoto

Born in 1978, currently living in Shiga Prefecture, he has been with Yamanami Kobo since 1996. A truck lover, he began to express cars he saw while driving in paintings and clay. Nowadays, he not only focuses on trucks, but also creates a series of works using people, landscapes, and other motifs from magazines and art books, all using only ink and a single disposable chopstick. While looking at the motif as a whole, he quickly runs his brush to create the overall picture, then paints over and over again over the lines he has drawn, following the flow. Drops of ink scattered and lines rubbed together give the painting a sense of dynamism. His style is to paint alone, lying down and leaning on his elbows while listening to his favorite music.
