These art tenugui towels are hand-dyed by artisans at Kyoya Dyeing, a dyeing shop in Iwate Prefecture with over 100 years of history. Made with a smooth, silky texture, they become softer and more comfortable with use. They can be used for a wide range of purposes, including as towels or dishcloths, wrapped around the neck for sun protection, or framed and displayed.

Product Features

■ A fusion of traditional and unique art
Kyoya Dyeing Shop is a dyeing shop that has been in business for over 100 years in Ichinoseki, a castle town in southern Iwate Prefecture. In collaboration with HERALBONY, which was born in Morioka, also in Iwate Prefecture, they have created artistic tenugui towels that can be used casually in everyday life.

■The appeal of tenugui, which can be used in a wide range of situations
Tenugui, a traditional Japanese item, is a versatile item that can be used in a variety of situations. Its excellent absorbency and quick-drying properties make it suitable for use as a dish towel or body towel in saunas and hot springs, and it can also be used to wrap lunch boxes and wine bottles. It also makes a great gift if you frame it and display it as art.

■Hand-dyed by artisans
Artisans carefully dye each piece using a hand-dyeing technique called "te-nassen," bringing out the depth of color in the distinctive artwork. Because it is hand-dyed, there may be uneven coloring or bleeding, but please enjoy the individual differences that can only be found in handmade products.

■ Experience "Japanese summer" through two art forms
The artwork featured is "Firefly Blossom" by Masahiro Fukui, a large summer flower painted in colors reminiscent of a gentle summer evening, and marina's art piece "marina-moji-003," with unusual lettering on a cool white background that gives it a somewhat modern look.
