◼︎About the exhibition "Distant Closeness"—the cosmos of Ittetsu Matsuoka and Yamanami Kobo—
This exhibition features works that photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka has collected over many years, as well as new photographs taken during his visit to the welfare facility "Yamanami Kobo" in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists affiliated with the facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. By layering drawings on photographs taken by Matsuoka, the artists "responded" with their works, creating a dialogue between photography and painting, much like an exchange of letters.

When these artists, who express themselves through different genres and methods, interact with each other's works, a trust and dialogue that transcends words is born. As the world captured by Matsuoka's lens and the world seen through the artists' eyes intertwine, new works emerge, raising fundamental questions about "seeing," "connecting," and "existing."

Ittetsu Matsuoka

Born in 1978. Photographer. Graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography. While working as a photographer, he founded and managed Terme Gallery in 2008. He captures everyday life in photographs while continuously shooting with an equal gaze at the world. Major solo exhibitions include "Mary" at BOOKMARC (Tokyo, 2018), "Only Gentle" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2020), "what i know" at amanaTIGP (Tokyo, 2023), and "TOKYO GAMES" at Shibuya Scramble SKY GALLERY (Tokyo, 2023). His latest solo exhibition is "Something Deeper, Sharper, More Dangerous, and Irresistibly Beautiful. Something Not Ordinary." at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film (Tokyo, 2025).
