About the exhibition "Close and Far" - Ittetsu Matsuoka and the Universe of Atelier Yamanami
This exhibition features works by photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka that he has been collecting for many years, as well as new photographs taken during a visit to Yamanami Studio, a welfare facility in Shiga Prefecture, and collaborative works with artists who are employed at the facility. The participating artists are Rikuto Yoshida, Yuki Ino, Yuya Oji, and NANA. The artists received Matsuoka's photographs and then overlaid them with drawings, carving them into their own works as a "response," creating a dialogue between the photographs and the paintings that resembles a correspondence.
By interacting with each other's work, which expresses itself in different genres and methods, a trust and dialogue that transcends words is born. The world seen through Matsuoka's lens intersects with the world seen through the eyes of the artists, giving birth to new works and raising fundamental questions about "seeing," "connecting," and "existence."
