Event Report: The thoughts behind the "unusual piece" drawn by Yasuhiro Kobayashi at the Ginza store

Good evening, this is Marie, a HERALBONY staff member.

On April 2nd, Autism Awareness Day, artist Yasuhiro Kobayashi visited HERALBONY LABOLATORY GINZA and performed live painting.

Yasuhiro-san always says, "I want to go to HERALBONY." This was his long-awaited visit to Ginza, and it was a wonderful time interacting with customers.

Today we would like to share some of this information with our newsletter readers.

"HERALBONY: Amulet for Ginza" - Painting of "Kaku Daishi"

Yasuhiro loves shrines, temples and Buddhist statues. On the day of the event, he headed to the atelier space in the store with a well-read Buddhist book in hand.

As if he had already thought, "This is what I want to paint!", he opened the book on the spot and, without any hesitation, began to paint "Kaku Daishi." After finishing the rough sketch, he wrote the title of the work, "Kaku Daishi (Dispelling plague)," on the edge of the canvas.

The Kaku Daishi in the reference book is black and white, but Yasuhiro's Kaku Daishi continues to be painted in vivid colors without hesitation. Unlike his usual style that we are familiar with, the first paint he chose was bright red.

Various unique colors are then layered on top of each other, and finally the background becomes completely black.

Once the piece was completed on the spot, it was taken back to the artist's studio, where he added additional layers of color at a later date using his usual art materials.

A few days later, someone from the facility sent us a photo of the "finished" piece along with Yasuhiro's thoughts.

"I would like to give this painting to HERALBONY. It is a talisman for the HERABONY Ginza store."

This piece of art was created with us, as well as all those who had visited the Ginza store at that time, and all those who will visit in the future, in mind. All of the staff were deeply moved by Yasuhiro's warm feelings.

Not only live painting but also a space where connections are born

Not only is Yasuhiro knowledgeable about shrines, temples, and Buddhist statues, he also has the extraordinary talent of being able to immediately tell what day of the week someone's date of birth is when asked.

Yasuhiro-san asks the staff around him and each customer who comes to the store about their date of birth. The store is filled with surprise and laughter, and conversations naturally emerge from there. It was a time when not only the work but also Yasuhiro-san's unique presence livened up the atmosphere and created connections.

In addition, at the request of customers, Yasuhiro would choose handkerchiefs that he recommended to customers, and he would recommend coasters to customers himself. There were many scenes where he connected with customers not only through his creations but also through the products in the store.

Furumai, a staff member at the facility who regularly spends time with Yasuhiro, said, "This is the first time I've heard Yasuhiro say something like that," and "I think this is the first time he's had the experience of choosing something for someone else," and he looked on with great joy as a new side of Yasuhiro emerged through his interactions with customers.

A space where artists are "naturally present" and where various people can mingle

At HERALBONY, we place great importance on artists and customers spending the same time in the same space, whether at our store or at events such as exhibitions.

"Disability" does not equal a deficiency; it is precisely because there are differences that a world can be depicted.

By meeting artists, you can experience their charm and interest, and develop feelings such as "respect" and "admiration" for them. And by experiencing this, you yourself can encounter new realizations, such as a feeling of affirmation of your own individuality. We believe that we can deliver such an experience.

By creating a space where people can gather around artists and smiles spread, the image of disabilities will gradually change. Toward such a future, HERALBONY will continue to create a place where many people can encounter and mingle with "uniqueness."

Yasuhiro Kobayashi ITEMS

Whenever HERALBONY creates a product, they present the artist who created the artwork with a gift. This time, we were able to present the gift directly to Yasuhiro, who wore the T-shirt to the event.

When handing out the striking blue handkerchiefs to coincide with Autism Awareness Day, Yasuhiro said some very memorable words.

"A jewel born from the sky and the sea."

This seemed to be a reference to the color blue used in the work.

Why not get your hands on some of these jewel-like blue items?
